LONDON, Oct 6 (IranMania) - Iran's Mobarakeh Steel Company has achieved the technology to produce an annual volume of 6,000 tons of steel sheets for maritime use for the first time in the country, said the company�s director of metallurgy and production methods, Mehr News Agency (MNA) reported.
The produced steel is used for offshore industries, oil and gas industries, and container manufacturing.
The steel sheets have so far imported from Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan, Hossein Bahman added citing that the oiled sheets are crucially needed for the development of Iranian maritime industries to achieve a capacity of 300,000 tons, the replacement of wooden vessels, and removing 400 vessels with the age of 20 years.
The company has been granted an international standard for the production of the sheets by a German inspection company �DNV�, he concluded.
In the meantime, the managing director of the company, Mahmoud Eslamian, said that his company has produced 2.7 mln tons of steel by the end of the first half of the current year (ending March 20, 2004). The figure which is one percent more than what predicted in the plans, comprised 43.3% of the total steel production in the country."
