Tehran Times Political Desk
TEHRAN (MNA) –- A central council member of the Islamic Iran Participation Party (IIPP), Mostafa Derayati, said former science minister Mostafa Moein will be the party’s next candidate in the future presidential election.

The party chose Moein as the next candidate when former prime minister Mir Hossein Musavi turned down the reformists’ invitation to run for the post, Derayati told the Mehr News Agency.

Moein has not yet announced whether he will run for president or not but the party is due to hold serious discussions with him, he said. Asked on a likely negotiation with Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, the former president and the current chairman of the Expediency Council, on the issue, Derayati said “Mr. Rafsanjani is a prominent figure in Iran and his plans, policies and views are completely known (to all), but there has not been such a discussion so far in the party.”

He said it is highly unlikely that negotiations to continue with Musavi since he rejected the offer even at the request of President Mohammad Khatami and former Majlis speaker Mahdi Karrubi.
