Rafsanjani on terrorism

Description of Selected News: "Rafsanjani said that the Islamic Revolution and the system have suffered tremendously from terrorism.
He stressed that the terrorist group Mujahedeen is currently sheltered by the United States and has given sufficient reason for nations to accuse the U.S. of dishonesty in its fight against terrorism and not trust its slogans.
Pointing to the differences between terrorism and resistance, the EC chairman reiterated that ignoring the absolute right of five million Palestinian refugees cannot be ignored.
Pointing to the trend of democracy in Iran, he said all senior officials in the country are elected by direct or indirect vote of the people.
For his part, Goh outlined the political and economic developments in Singapore and said the region has concerns over the issue of terrorism which should be eradicated through collaboration of regional states and forging of appropriate strategies.

In a separate meeting with the top Singaporean official the speaker of the Islamic Consultative Council (Majlis) Gholam-Ali Haddad Adel also said Tuesday that Iran's new parliament welcomes any form of political and economic cooperation with world countries, East Asian states in particular.
He pointed out that Tehran and Singapore, through greater interaction between their parliaments in the future, could open new horizons for bilateral relations.
Rejecting the moves by big powers to impose democracy on weaker states, Haddad Adel said that if democracy implies respect for the wishes of the majority, then it must be anchored on their values, beliefs and traditions.
