Mehr News Agency English: "Iran Exports $100m Worth Of Biscuits And Chocolate
TEHRAN July 5 (MNA) -? The Association of Iranian Confectionary Manufacturing Companies secretary told Mehr News Agency that it is projected that the export of biscuits, cake, chocolate and other kinds of sweets will increase by 43 percent this year easing at $100 million in the current Iranian calendar year 1383 (March 20, 2004- March 19, 2005).
Ali Movahhed added that in the past Iranian year export of chocolate and cookies mounted up to $70 million, noting this year?s predicted increase will register a $30 million rise in exports of these products.

He stressed that at the present time a good market exists in the region for exports of these kinds of products, adding that the grounds have also been prepared inside the country to reinforce exports in this sector.

Touching on the import of foreign products including Chinese sweets and chocolates, he said controlled imports from formal gateways would not hurt the domestic chocolate industry and the industry would not be threatened unless the products entered the country through smuggling."
