Iran discusses Al-Qaeda detainees with Saudi

: "Iran discusses Al-Qaeda detainees with Saudi, unclear on extradition

TEHRAN, June 12 (AFP) - Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi said Saturday that Iran has given Saudi Arabia 'useful' information on Al-Qaeda members it has detained, but insisted that any extraditions would only be according to the Islamic republic's 'national interests'.

'The very fact that we are detaining Al-Qaeda members in our prisons and that we are preventing them from having any contact with the outside world is in itself a useful act in the struggle against terrorism,' Kharazi told a news conference.

'Saudi Arabia and other countries know full well that the detention of these people is an important action,' Kharazi said, when asked about talks here this week with Saudi Justice Minister Abdullah Mohammed Ibrahim al-Sheikh.

'We are in constant contact with the Saudis and we have supplied them with useful information,' Kharazi said, again refusing to say whom Iran is holding."
