TEHRAN, May 24 (AFP) - A moderate earthquake measuring 4.6 degrees on the Richter scale hit Iran's western province of Kermanshah early Monday, but there were no reports of casualties or property damage, the state IRNA news agency said.

Tehran University seismological unit registered the tremor at 4:45 am (0015 GMT), with its epicenter in Hamil district some 80 kilometers (50 miles) west of the provincial capital of Kermanshah.

Iran is situated on some of the world`s most active seismic fault lines and quakes of varying magnitudes are common."
